What's just as much fun as building stuff? Taking stuff apart!

One of the core components of any makerspace is a vast selection of various parts, each one perfectly suited for a certain project. Printers are in easy supply and serve a plethora of mechanical components!
This was an expecially exiting topic to introduce to the kids because scrapping has been the foundation of my personal making experience. To this day, I have several bins of parts that I've ripped from old toys, games, appliances, electronics, and various other would-be forms of garbage. It still surprises me how useful this has been; no matter the occasion, I will always have the right part for a build.
But take-apart isn't just a cheap, sustainible, and overall great source of supplies. It also is a fantastic educational activity! Kids will learn how everyday objects work, and be able to use that knowledge as the basis of future engineering activites.
