Portable Monitor

Ingredients: An old laptop and a disused karaoke machine.

Project steps and Images

This old laptop was originally saved from my grandparent's trash with the intention of builing a Wii laptop out of it (see my Ashida Wii project). However, I soon realized that there wouldn't be enough space in the laptop chassis, and decided to instead make it into a portable monitor. I then managed to find a fitting LCD controller board and got some speakers from my little sister's old karaoke machine. The process of fitting everything into the laser cut box was surprisingly hard, but I eventually got something that worked well enough to let be bodge the rest. This was my first complex laser cutting project, and I definitely learned a lot about the design principles of 2D sheets. Overall, the project was a success, and the two-hour drone battery included will make it super easy to test video output on future electronics projects!
